Location: UCLan Students' Union, Preston, Burnley and Westlakes

Reports to: Communities Coordinators

Pay band and salary range: £12.21 per hour (plus holiday pay)

Working Pattern: Part-time at 8–10 hours per week – shift pattern to be mutually agreed weekly with your coordinator. Flexibility is required and may include evenings and weekends – we will be flexible around your University work.

Role summary: As a Student Community Organiser, you'll help build a stronger, more inclusive and connected student community. Working within the Students’ Union’s Community Engagement team, you will listen deeply to students from all walks of life, identify shared challenges and hopes, and support them to take meaningful, collective action.

Grounded in the principles of broad-based community organising, you’ll create spaces for students to connect, grow in confidence, and become changemakers. You’ll nurture leadership in unexpected places – not just those with formal titles – helping students to challenge inequality, build alliances and shape a university experience where everyone feels they belong.

Specific duties and activities include: Support Student Leaders from All Backgrounds, Build Local Connections, Make Student Voices Heard, Connect Student Communities, Organise Events and Activities, Create a Sense of Belonging, Encourage Student Participation in Union Decisions, Celebrate Success and Learn Together, Be Kind, Curious, and Inclusive.

Pay band and salary range: £12.21 per hour (plus holiday pay)

Job type: Part time, fixed term until May 2026

Hours: 12–16 hours per week. Please indicate on your cover letter all the days that you are available to work.

2 x part-time Student Group Assistants – 12–16 hours per week

The Role: Are you highly organised with an interest in supporting student-led groups behind the scenes? Join Lancashire Students' Union as a Student Group Assistant!

We are looking for two detail-driven Student Group Assistants to provide essential administrative support to our student-led groups – including societies, sports and volunteering projects. Your work will include committee support, training coordination, email communications, and maintaining accurate administrative records. A central responsibility will be administering the Student Group Badge Scheme, ensuring all participants are supported and recognised appropriately. While the role is mostly office-based, you may also help support events across the year on an ad-hoc basis.

What you’ll do: Key responsibilities

  1. Provide administrative support to all areas of student group activity.
  2. Administer and update badge scheme progress trackers, communicating with participants and recognising achievements.
  3. Support the planning and delivery of committee training throughout the year, including ensuring online Blackboard training is kept up-to-date.
  4. Assist with the coordination of elections and committee transitions.
  5. Respond promptly to student queries, providing helpful and timely support.
  6. Support Union-wide events and campaigns in collaboration with the wider team.

Duties and Responsibilities: Specific duties and activities

  1. Support the administration and logistics of all student-led groups across societies, sports and volunteering projects.
  2. Manage incoming student group enquiries and provide email support to committees and student leaders.
  3. Maintain up-to-date records, forms and systems to support student group activity.
  4. Administer the Student Group Badge Scheme, tracking progress, communicating with participants and issuing achievements.
  5. Support committee selection processes, including elections and appointments, in line with Union guidelines.
  6. Assist with the planning and delivery of student leader training, including maintaining up-to-date online Blackboard training and accurate training completion records.
  7. Contribute to the successful coordination of Students' Union events and campaigns on an ad-hoc basis.
  8. To work with the Community Engagement Team to support Students’ Union provision at Burnley and Westlakes campuses.

Job type: Part time

Hours: 10 hours per week – shift pattern to be mutually agreed weekly with your line manager. Flexibility is required and may include evenings and weekends. You will not be working holidays or achievement weeks. We will be flexible around your university work.

The Role: As a Student Researcher, you’ll support creative and inclusive research projects that explore the diverse experiences of your fellow students, ensuring every student’s voice – especially those often unheard – is captured. Working closely with Students’ Union staff and student communities, you’ll help produce reports and presentations that directly influence Union activity and university decisions.

What you’ll do: Key responsibilities

  1. Support the design and delivery of creative research projects across different student communities.
  2. Use mixed methods (e.g., surveys, interviews, focus groups, visual storytelling, mapping, journaling) to gather meaningful insights.
  3. Ensure underrepresented voices are included and amplified throughout research activity.
  4. Help analyse collected information to identify themes and patterns.
  5. Contribute to engaging reports, visuals and presentations that inform Students’ Union priorities and actions.
  6. Work alongside SU staff, elected reps and student communities to support projects and share findings, ensuring research is inclusive and ethical.

Duties and Responsibilities: Specific duties and activities

  1. Contribute ideas for research questions and develop accessible tools (surveys, interview guides, creative prompts).
  2. Pilot research methods with small groups to check clarity and inclusivity; refine based on feedback.
  3. Facilitate/support focus groups, interviews and workshops; use approaches like mapping, journaling and visual storytelling.
  4. Reach out to a wide range of students, including those who don’t usually engage with SU activities.
  5. Record and document findings accurately, following consent and confidentiality processes.
  6. Assist in analysing data and presenting illustrative quotes/examples that keep student experience central.
  7. Support creation of reports, infographics and presentations that clearly share outcomes.
  8. Collaborate with SU teams and elected reps; share progress in meetings and ensure findings are fed back to participants.
