Micro Volunteering

Micro Volunteering

Life as a student can often mean you don't have a lot of spare time between lectures, course work, jobs and your social life. We also know that some of our students are still looking for volunteering opportunities that can make a real difference but are flexible around you.

Micro volunteering is perfect for those of you who don't have much spare time and like to work whilst 'on the go'. Skills or previous experience isn't needed, and it can be done from anywhere in the world and even in your PJ's! It’s a chance for you to make a difference even if life doesn't let you commit to a full scale project.

What types of things does Micro volunteering include?

  • Sharing social media posts and creating conversations online
  • Signing petition letters or handing out flyers for Students’ Union campaigns and working with our Officer Team
  • Writing letters for charities who work with ill children or patients in hospital
  • Giving time to translate documents or interpret photos
  • Draft funding bids, case studies, web content, social media posts or newsletter articles
  • Help run events or host a stall

How does Micro Volunteering help

Donating even just a small amount of your time goes on to help other students and your wider community.

How much time do I need to commit to Volunteering?

That's entirely up to you! Micro volunteering is designed to fit around your life and your commitments.

What can I get out of it?

You can log your hours with our Grad Ready volunteering award in hour chunks of time. Find out more information here

What Next?

Sign up for this project here and you will be added to a Microsoft Teams channel that has all the micro-volunteering links and Students’ Union micro volunteering opportunities

Action Packs

Action packs are a brand new way of volunteering that lets you get involved when it’s convenient for you.

Every month you can come and pick up a new craft pack, complete it at home and then return it to us and we will then use what you have made to improve life for students and the wider community.

Different action packs will include:

-Positive post cards

-Holiday/Festive cards for a children's hospice

-Rock painting with positive messages

You can ask for an action pack at the welcome desk on the ground floor of the Students’ Union
