Location: UCLan Students' Union, Preston – SU Café, Lampworks and/or 53 Degrees

Job Type: Part-time, Permanent

Salary: £12.21 per hour plus 12.07% rolled up holiday pay package.

Hours: Flexible, 6-18 per week. Tailored around university timetable. Hours likely to include evenings and weekends as well as daytimes through the week and some late-night finishes. Recruiting for September starts now.

We are seeking enthusiastic and friendly Front of House Team Members to join our team and help create an amazing experience for our customers. As a Front of House Team Member, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, serving food and drinks, operating tills, and keeping the venue clean and tidy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greeting customers with a smile and providing a warm welcome
  • Taking orders and serving food and drinks in a timely manner
  • Operating tills and handling cash and card transactions accurately
  • Keeping the venue clean and tidy, including tables, chairs and floors
  • Adhering to health and safety regulations and ensuring compliance with licensing laws
  • Assisting with stock control and replenishment of supplies as required

Key Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A friendly and approachable manner
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • Previous experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential

Overview: We are seeking energetic and reliable Ad-Hoc Event Assistants to support our dynamic events team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the events industry with the potential to transition into a more permanent role. As an Events Assistant, you’ll play a key role in ensuring events run smoothly by assisting with various operational tasks, engaging with guests, and helping with event set-up and logistics. The role requires flexibility, availability for gigs, and working weekends and evenings as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-the-ground support during events, assisting with set-up, guest registration, and overall event logistics.
  • Ensure smooth operation of event activities by addressing any issues that arise promptly.
  • Help manage event spaces and coordinate with vendors, staff, and attendees.
  • Support guest interactions, providing a high level of customer service and ensuring attendees have a positive experience.
  • Assist with crowd management, ensuring all safety protocols are followed.
  • Be available for ad-hoc shifts, including weekends, evenings, and out-of-hours work.
  • Support on-the-day coordination of events, including setting up event materials, managing schedules, and troubleshooting any logistical challenges.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Flexible, adaptable, and willing to work on an as-needed basis.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable interacting with a wide range of people.
  • Previous experience in events or customer service is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work on weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
  • Team player with a can-do attitude and a strong work ethic.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Potential Transition to Permanent Events Assistant Role:

After gaining experience in the field, successful candidates may be considered for a more permanent Events Assistant position, where responsibilities will shift to include:

  • Coordinating and assisting with event planning and logistics.
  • Managing client communications, schedules, and inquiries.
  • Assisting with event budgets and vendor management.
  • Administrative tasks related to event coordination.
  • Assisting in event marketing and social media promotion.
