An article written by your SU Volunteering Coordinator about Student Volunteer Week, what's going on and how to get involved! SVW runs February 5th - 9th

Student Volunteer Week is a time to recognise and celebrate the remarkable contributions of our students who dedicate their time, energy, and passion to making a positive impact at UCLan. This annual celebration not only highlights the selfless work of students but also serves as a reminder of the transformative power of volunteering.

What makes our Volunteers so great is their diversity in their different roles!

Our Volunteers are:

• Sports committee members who help look after their teammates, collect kit, organise socials to bond teammates and run charity events for the community.
• Society committee members who organise talks, lectures, board game nights to ensure all students have a chance to belong. Organise study groups and end of year celebration events to enhance student life.
• Course reps and School Presidents who fight for the best academic experience for their course mates and get the all-important feedback to get students value for money from their degree.
• One off Wednesday volunteers who spend their free time once a week making positive postcards for students, pick up litter around campus and making cards for various hospice charities.
• Students’ Council members who come together to represent student views and debate on the key issue to give everyone the best experience.
• Project volunteers who run amazing craft and food fairs, save local hedgehogs, promote positive mental health and more.

Every day of Student Volunteer Week we will be shouting out about our amazing volunteers.

Monday – Advocacy and insight

Our very own Vice President Education, Charlotte, will be interviewing the Burnley Rep, Lara, about the role and why it’s important.

Tuesday – Societies

We are transforming one of our windows in the Engagement centre into the society spotlight for the day with posters showcasing a handful of our amazing society groups.

Wednesday – Volunteering projects

Come along for free pizza and a group photo of as many volunteers and possible – 12pm in the Engagement centre.

Thursday – Sports

We are planting trees at the UCLan Sports Arena to give back to the space that hosts so many of our fixtures. Get in touch with SUteam@uclan.ac.uk for more info.

Friday – Celebrating volunteers from all areas of the Students’ Union

We will be posting about our “above and beyond the call of duty” volunteer winners and shouting about their amazing contributions to student life.

Your Elected Officer team will be posting on social media throughout the week about our volunteers so keep a look out.
