About us

The David Nott Foundation is a humanitarian organisation training surgeons and other medical professionals to provide relief in war zones and other areas of need. The purpose of FDNF UCLan is to fundraise for and raise awareness of DNF's work amongst students at the University of Central Lancashire. We also aim to run events that will help students be better equipped to follow careers in the intersection between medicine and humanitarianism, learn about issues in the context of health facing people around the world and bring people interested in these issues together through establishing a physical presence on campus.

What does the David Nott Foundation do?

- Educating surgeons and medical professionals with the skills to provide relief and assistance in conflict and natural disaster zones worldwide. Through education, these surgeons can teach others and improve local healthcare and medical education in countries where the need is most acute.
This is very different from other groups, such as MSF, as DNF is the only organisation that enters frontline countries and travels to deliver teaching to local doctors, making them competent to handle eminent crises.

Future Plans:
1. Fundraising events - Marathons, bake sales, talks with faculty trainers
2. Langauge sessions - medical Arabic
3. Challenge activities across campus
4. Basic crisis management skills session opportunity for students
5. Career pathway in humanitarian aid advice and talks from current surgeons in the field
6. Conference inviting Humanitarian Surgeons World Wide
7. Talk with David Nott at the UCLan campus
