Why Join the UCLan Asian Society?
• Be part of a dynamic and inclusive community that celebrates diversity and brings people together
• Experience and learn about various Asian cultures through social events, discussions, and collaborations
• Build connections and friendships with students from across the globe who share similar interests and values
• Help shape the future of a new society that reflects the evolving multicultural landscape of UCLan
Our Objectives:
1) Fostering Cultural Awareness: We seek to raise awareness about the wide array of Asian cultures, from East Asia to South Asia, Southeast Asia to the Middle East, and beyond. Through social gatherings, informative sessions, and potential collaborations with other cultural societies, we aim to introduce the UCLan community to the beauty and complexity of Asian traditions, languages, and practices
2) Promoting Diversity and Inclusivity: The Asian Society is open to all students, regardless of their race, language, or religion. We believe in celebrating our differences and learning from one another to promote cross-cultural understanding. We also welcome anyone with an interest in Asian cultures or those who wish to engage in meaningful dialogue about the diverse experiences within the Asian diaspora
3) Building a Supportive Community: University life can be challenging, especially for international students adjusting to a new environment. We hope to create a support network where students can share their experiences, find friends who understand their backgrounds, and feel empowered to voice their concerns. The Asian Society will be a safe space for open discussions and mutual support
4) Collaborating with Other Societies and Across Communities: One of the core aims of our society is to collaborate with other cultural, academic, and social societies at UCLan. By working together, we can organize joint events, cultural exchanges, and larger gatherings that bring students from different backgrounds together. These collaborations will help build stronger bonds within the UCLan community and promote unity across diverse student groups. For example, we could partner with societies like the International Society, the African-Caribbean Society, or the various religious societies on campus to host multicultural events or charity initiatives
5) Encouraging Cross-Cultural Dialogue: The Asian Society will act as a bridge between different communities, encouraging dialogue and understanding among students. Through panel discussions, guest speaker events, and cultural exchanges, we aim to create opportunities for students to engage in meaningful conversations about global issues, identity, and culture
