Your Big Ideas

Do you have an Idea about how to make the Students’ Union, University or the wider community better for students?

Your Big Ideas are a great way to make meaningful change on campus. Submit your Idea online and share with your friends and course mates. If your Big Idea achieves 50 or more votes in favour after 28 days, it will be taken forward; either to an appropriate meeting such as Students’ Council or by meeting with the appropriate person(s) to help make your idea a reality. If a Big Idea gets approval at Students’ Council, it will become Students’ Union policy and we will work with you on making it happen!

To submit an Idea or vote on any of the current Big Ideas below, you must be logged in using your UCLan student login. Once logged in, the option to submit will appear and to vote, just click the thumbs up or down button - depending on your opinion!

Previous Big Ideas-turned reality have included free period provisions on campus, an extension to the academic calendar and free disability screening.

Big Idea – Fees reimbursement/ fees concision for international students (Non EU) January 2020 Intake

    Expired
My request for BIG IDEA is about fee reimbursement/ fees concession for students due to the current pandemic. Many students are facing financial and academic troubles in the current situation. Firstly, most of the classes became online and students are unable to receive the level of education they deserve. This is also affecting their wellbeing also to great extent. On top of this students are burdened with financial issues. The international students have arrived in the United Kingdom to take offline classes even after there is scope for online courses to pursue, where fee structure for online courses is cheaper than offline courses. On average most of the students have paid £10,000 (after getting International Bursary & Excellence Scholarship). Whereas other universities are charging an average of £7000 for online courses. Secondly, All the students in university accommodations have received a FREE stay at university accommodation for around 5 months during the first lockdown in 2020 (Approx. £1200) got reimburse to their accounts. Whereas students in private accommodations have struggled to pay their rents. Why these students have been not considered? The university needs to consider all the situations faced by students and should consider refunding a considerable amount to students so that it will help the students to cope up with the current emotional and financial status. Thank you.

11:17pm on 4 Feb 21 Hi, Its not just for Jan 2020, it for every international student who joined after Jan 2020 would be beneficial. As mentioned online course is half the peice in our University. It would be great if we have reimbursed of the fees for all international students.

4:32pm on 5 Feb 21 Hi, the fees reimbursement should not only be applied for the students who joined after January 2020, but it should also apply for the students who started their course in September 2019. As most of the students have paid full fees and attended online classes for the later part of our course, It would be really helpful if the university helps the students who started their course in September 2019 as well.

Great job guys, We all are here with you.
